Jonathan + Brittney | Charlotte NC

Jonathan and Brittney Coleman are amazing people and I had a great time photographing them around Charlotte. We started off on the NoDa Arts district and found some fun backdrops to try out. Brittney swore up and down that she was not photogenic, but I have to disagree. (So does she now after seeing the photos we made)

Next we headed to uptown Charlotte and spend some time at The Green off Trying Street. It was close enough to a few other spots in the city to get some variety.

Consider this when searching for a wedding photographer: number of shooters

I truly believe selecting a wedding photographer is the most important decision a couple can make while planning their wedding and recently wrote a column published by the Independent Tribune laying out a few tips to help newly engaged couples as they begin their search.

When you hire your wedding photographer, how many shooters will be at your event? Most weddings need at least two photographers. Your wedding day is a major event with a lot going on. While you are getting ready, who is documenting your soon-to-be spouse? During your first dance, who is making sure to get the photo of mom or dad wiping away a tear?

Having two photographers at your wedding ensures complete coverage of your event from the biggest moments to the smallest details.

Finally, ask your photographer if his or her second shooter is another professional. The most experienced photographers should have one or two others they’ve worked with many times in the past and have developed a working relationship that will make sure your photography is second to none.

Consider this when searching for a wedding photographer: wedding albums

What will you do with all your images from your wedding day? Many couples prefer to place them in a beautifully designed wedding album that your wedding photographer should provide. Having a disc of digital images is important, but ultimately it will be the wedding album that serves as an heirloom for your family to remember your wedding day for generations to come.

Wedding albums come in all shapes and sizes and of varying quality. You should look for something that you will cherish and enjoy sharing with you family and friends for many years to come.

A few questions to ask when it comes to wedding albums are: How many pages are in the wedding albums? How many images will be in the wedding album? Will the print quality deteriorate over time? Is this album made to last?

Consider this when looking for a wedding photographer: Coverage

When searching for a wedding photographer, this is something easily overlooked. How many hours of coverage do you get with your wedding photographer? Typically, you want your wedding photographer to be with you to document all the important moments of your day. Isn’t that what you hired a professional for?

Typical coverage requirements for your wedding day should be about 8-10 hours. Walk through your timeline with your photographer to make sure you have everything covered. If you have a good relationship with your photographer, he or she will often stay a little longer if it is needed to fully document your day.

Consider this when looking for a wedding photographer: Price

Weddings can be very expensive. This is no secret. There are countless websites and articles out there to help you stay on or under budget. While the price of your wedding photography is an important factor, it should not be the only thing that matters. Be sure to take a look at what your wedding photographer is offering compared to what you want.

Make sure you hold and feel the quality of any products offered by your photographer. If displaying incredible images of you and your new family is important, look for a photographer you can fit in your budget without short selling yourself.

Many photographers offer packages that will reduce the price of items purchased individually and save you money while still receiving a quality product and experience.

After the roller coaster ride of your wedding is over, your photography will be all you have to remember the day.

Consider this when looking for a wedding photographer: Personality

Do your personalities match?

When selecting your wedding photographer, you are selecting more than just another vendor for your wedding day. You are hiring someone who will be with you, your family and your closest friends all day during your wedding. Having someone who you can trust and enjoy to be around is crucial. Don’t overlook or undervalue this.

Your wedding photographer’s personality can set the tone for your entire wedding day. He or she can ultimately have a huge effect on your enjoyment of the day and the resulting wedding photography. You will more than likely be working with your wedding photographer for at least a year, if not longer, by the time you factor in your engagement session, your wedding day and following the wedding for album design and when you are looking for artwork to grace your home.

Some brides prefer a more photojournalistic approach where the photographer is skilled at capturing those decisive moments with little to no interruption in the flow of your day. Others prefer a photographer who takes charge and controls every moment of the day in order to make stunning images like those seen in glamour magazines. Make sure you know what to expect out of your photographer.
